Everyone working with children, young people and their families should know who to contact if a referral is necessary and what information to share.
Where concerns arise as a result of information given by a child it is important to:
•   Reassure the child but not to promise confidentiality
•   Record full information about the child at first point of contact
•   Record in writing all concerns, discussions about the child, decisions made, and the reasons for those decisions

Upon successful completion of this training course, you will:
• Know when and how to refer a concern about child protection

Objectives

This course will enable you to:
• Learn what children want in order to feel safe
• Learn what to do and what not to do if a child tells you about abuse
• Know your personal responsibility for ensuring the health and safety of children
• Provide advice to parents

Audience

This course is intended for all children’s workforce practitioners, i.e. all staff who work with children, young people and their families.
Although this course forms part of an induction programme for new starters, it is also intended for all practitioners who want to improve their knowledge and continue their professional development.

Duration

This course takes approximately 40 to 60 minutes to complete.
Note: There is no set time limit as it is down to how fast or slow you want to take each course and whether or not you want to take a course in one sitting or in stages.

Certification

At the end of this course is a quiz which contains questions based on the course content.
The pass mark is set at 80%.
Upon successful completion of the quiz the course will be marked as Complete and you will be automatically awarded and instantly emailed a personalised Certificate of Completion.
You can retake the quiz at any time.
